Review of Teapot Lane by Catherine Mack (Irish Times, Ethical Traveller)

Catherine Mack enlightens us with her review of Teapot Lane Luxury Yurt Camp, an eco-venture run by Derval McGovern.
Consisting of three luxury yurts with wood-burning stoves, cast iron beds, fairy lights and lanterns, a thatched self-catering cottage, and a private bathroom with roll top bath in case you just do compost loos and outdoor showers. The yurts’ showers are gas, are tankless, need no electric supply, and use a combination of mains and rainwater from the roof, and both showers and huts are concealed in huts alongside each yurt. Derval has commited to keeping her remote woodland site restricted to small numbers and at 100euro per night for a yurt that sleeps four to six this is fair sustainable tourism. It takes advantage of the local surrounding activities: Beaches of Bundoran Donegal, Sligos Mullaghmore Strand, Leitrim’s Dartry Mountains surfing, riding lessons, fishing, foraging trips and guided walks.

“” We stayed at Teapot Lane July 10 and loved it. It was our first family experience of camping although when my friends saw our photos they laughed at the idea that this resembled camping, one of them called it glamping!! Derval is a great host and the whole atmosphere is more shabby chic than all out glamourous camping – but that suits us just grand! Just off the main road to Sligo which makes it easy to explore the area, but tucked away enough to make you feel like you are in the middle of nowhere. Would highly recommend for families or just a bit of craic with your friends.

I have a very “picky” son. He dislikes noise, disruption, chaos, insects, flies and many, many other things. It is difficult to find a place where he can relax, that isn’t the ubiquitous hotel room. He loved Teapot Lane! He really did relax. Derval herself has a laid back nature that adds to the atmosphere and as for Anouska, the resident dog, well she was a major attraction.
The yurts and th…e facilities are very good. The beds are very comfortable and the bed linen excellent. It feels very luxurious sleeping in the yurt. The fire is very easily lit and the tea lights create a wonderful atmosphere.
We both had a lovely massage one of the afternoons and slept very soundly afterwards.
I would highly recommend this place and we will be returning next year for sure….if we can get a booking!!

Tea pot Lane is an enchanting place, Derval provided a farmhouse table laid with scones and lovely Jams and a basket
of home grown veggies in her beautiful thatched cottage, my kids were so
excited to sleep in a yurt, it was October and it was cold outside
but within the yurt it so so snug and comfortable. I will be back again, Mullaghmore is a beautiful seaside village just 5 mins drive from Tea pot Lane, I would recommend sitting outside the pub over looking the habour with a Irish coffee pure bliss,
